2 June 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Five new judges have been appointed to the Supreme Court (SC), taking its current strength to 37, one short of the sanctioned strength of 38.

The newly appointed judges are Senior Advocate Venkita Subramani Mohana, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, and Justice Arun Palli.

2 June 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty has assumed charge as the 20th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN), succeeding Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar.

Major General Rachel Thomas has been appointed as the Additional Director General of the Military Nursing Service (MNS), succeeding Major General Lissamma. Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhry has assumed charge as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command, succeeding Air Marshal Balakrishnan Manikantan.

1 June 2026 APPOINTMENTS

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has appointed Rohit Rajpal, a former Davis Cup captain, as the Chef de Mission for the 23rd Commonwealth Games (2026 CWG), to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

Additionally, Ravi Bengani has been appointed as the Deputy Chef de Mission, while Vandana Rao and Rahul Swami have been designated as the general team managers for the Indian contingent.

30 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar has been appointed as the 48th Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) of the Indian Navy. He succeeds Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan.

Prior to this, he served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2022 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) in 2026.

26 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has been appointed as the Chairman of the reconstituted Committee on Petitions of the Upper House.

A total of 10 members have been nominated to the panel. The other members are Harsh Mahajan, Gulam Ali, Shambhu Sharan Patel, Mayankkumar Nayak, Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Jebi Mather Hisham, Subhasish Khuntia, Rwngwra Narzary, and Sandosh Kumar P.

21 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has constituted the parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women for the 2026–27 session, effective from April 21, 2026, with Dr. Daggubati Purandeswari appointed as the Chairperson.

The committee comprises 30 members, with 20 nominated by the Speaker from the Lok Sabha and 10 nominated by the Chairman from the Rajya Sabha. The tenure of the JPC does not exceed one year, and it is reconstituted annually.

20 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

N Rangasamy, the founder of the All India NR Congress (AINRC), has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a record fifth term.

The oath of office was administered by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) K Kailashnathan. This marks the second consecutive National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the Union Territory (UT).

18 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

Dr Harvansh Chawla has been appointed as the Chairman of the BRISEC Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRISEC CCI). He previously served as the Chairman of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI).

It is to be noted that the BRISEC CCI was established in 2026 and is recognized by NITI Aayog.

18 May 2026 APPOINTMENTS

R Mukundan has been elected as the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the 2026-27 term. He succeeds Rajiv Memani.

It is to be noted that the newly constituted National Council of the CII has also appointed Suchitra Ella as the President-Designate and Shashwat Goenka as the Vice President for the same term.
