13 June 2026 AGREEMENTS

The centre has signed a tripartite MoU with the state governments of Assam and Nagaland to resume mineral oil and natural gas operations along their contested border. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah.

The pact covers over 1,000 sq km of area along the border, encompassing 6 identified disputed oilfields. The revenue generated from the hydrocarbon resources extracted from these regions will be shared between the two states based on a 50:50 formula.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma have launched Mission ‘Senehjori’ to transform the Assam Muga Silk sector into a globally competitive luxury textile ecosystem.

Muga silk is the world’s only naturally golden silk and India’s first GI-tagged silk. The total budget for the revitalization of this sector is ₹396-411 crore, with a contribution of ₹136-151 crore from the Ministry. The initiative is structured as a 3-year roadmap with milestones to be completed by 2028.

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has released the first satellite-tagged Ganges Softshell Turtle (Nilssonia gangetica) in the country at the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam.

The project was executed in collaboration with the Assam Forest Department and Kaziranga park authorities, with funding provided by the National Geographic Society. The adult turtle was fitted with a transmitter under strict veterinary supervision and released along the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) has announced the winners of the National Panchayat Awards 2025 (NPA-2025), recognizing 42 Panchayats for excellence in rural governance and sustainable development. Karnataka secured the highest number of awards with 6 honors, followed by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh with 5 awards each.

Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) category, 34 Gram Panchayats (GP) were selected based on the scores of the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0. The Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP-2025) recognized 8 winners, comprising 3 District Panchayats, 2 Block Panchayats, and 3 GPs.

New Napam Gaon Panchayat in Assam was named the Best GP of India under NDSPSVP 2025, receiving a prize of ₹1.5 crore. Telcup in Bihar and Biraharu in Uttar Pradesh secured the second and third positions, earning ₹1.25 crore and ₹1 crore respectively.
